DESIGN EVERYTHING – A SEAT AT THE TABLE
Following the success of Design Everything’s debut show in 2024 (Design Everything × Kindred), we were proud to present an open call for the exhibition A Seat At The Table.
The concept for the show was born out of a frustration with how difficult it was for emerging creatives to share their work as part of the London Design Festival and to be part of conversations with key industry stakeholders.
In response, we presented a mobile exhibition made up of a collection of seats designed by some of the country’s most exciting emerging talent. Installed in the back of a Luton van — a vehicle synonymous with moving furniture around the capital — the exhibition travelled to venues across key design districts, including the Shoreditch Design Triangle, Brompton Design District, and the Dalston to Stoke Newington Design District.
We chose the archetype of a seat not only because it was an accessible object with vast creative potential, but because it allowed the exhibition to communicate the wider power of design. The seats were removed from their plinths and used to activate spaces around London through community-oriented events such as potlucks, demonstrations, workshops, talks, and round-table discussions — facilitating conversation, collaboration, and community.
